Appearance segmentation and documentation applied to cultural heritage surfaces

چکیده
This paper describes the development and application of a novel supervised segmentation technique used for conservation documentation based on visible appearance changes Cultural Heritage (CH) metal surfaces. The is employing linear discriminant analysis model to classify Reflectance Transformation Imaging (RTI) reconstruction coefficients. Hemispherical Harmonics (HSH) coefficients each pixel are first calculated then normalized. normalization increases robustness invariance making it possible apply documenting different surfaces at time intervals. In this paper, we presented three case studies related corrosion assessment CH objects through detection monitoring degree silver tarnishing. For study, data set constructed, teaching algorithm recognize as distinct specified characteristic (such corrosion, etc.) by comparing pixel. segmented information visualized simplified colormap. results afterwards verified inspection from conservation-restoration experts. method can segment with in micro-geometry, but reaches its limitation minimal topography high specularity.

Cultural Heritage Documentation
Cultural heritage around the globe suffers from wars, natural disasters and human negligence. The importance of cultural heritage documentation is well recognized and there is an increasing pressure to document our heritage both nationally and internationally. This has alerted international organizations to the need for issuing guidelines describing the standards for documentation. Charters, re...
متن کاملIntegrated Surveying Tecniques in Cultural Heritage Documentation
This paper is focused on integration between laser scanning data, CAD modelling and photogrammetric data collected during the survey of one façade of the monument called “Quattro Canti” in the historic centre of Palermo. The investigation has been directed to the production of a 3D photorealistic model of the monument. The “Quattro Canti” monument is formed by four cylindrical façades facing th...
متن کاملBiocleaning of Cultural Heritage Surfaces
Microbial agents are among the major causes of deterioration of cultural heritage, strongly affecting our global cultural legacy, the stone, glass, wood and other sources used to fabricate millions of artworks and monuments around the world. However, it is not all about rotting and erosion! Microbial action has been harnessed to clean the surfaces of stone sculptures and buildings and frescoes....
متن کاملAutomatic monitoring and 3D reconstruction applied to cultural heritage
In this article we present our global approach to the problem of accurate 3D measurement and reconstruction of 3D works of art using a calibrated multi-camera system. In particular, we illustrate a simple and effective adaptive technique for the self-calibration of CCD-based multi-camera acquisition systems with minimum a-priori information. We also propose a general and robust approach to the ...
متن کامل3D Reconstruction Applied to Virtual Heritage and Cultural Conservation
There is increasing interest in creating 3D photo-realistic computer models of monuments or heritage buildings, both indoors and outdoors. Our approach to 3D Reconstruction is to use automated distance measurements together with photographs. Two technologies are used: i) a combined laser digital camera sensor for data acquisition and ii) mobility for resolving spatial occlusions. After a few sc...
